Hello All,
I sent an e-mail to Mark Robson about this issue. I wanted to post this response I got from him. I thought it was pretty interesting. I am also posting my initial e-mail to him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Andrew: Re: Martin County Netting
I am in receipt of your email dated October 28, 2002.
Your input was submitted as part of public record and your comments are duly noted. All documentation voicing the concerns and opinions of the public has been presented to the Commissioners for consideration at the November Commission meeting. A summary of these comments has been compiled and delivered to the Commissioners. At the upcoming November meeting, the Commissioners will determine how they wish us to proceed on this issue. However, no final action will be taken at this time. Subsequent to this meeting a proposed rule will likely be prepared and considered at the January 2003 meeting to be held in Fort Myers.
The next Commission Meeting is November 20-22, 2002 and is being held at Hawk’s Cay Resort in Duck Key, Florida. Please be assured that our Commissioners are aware of the concerns and issues raised in your e-mails. However, should you wish to speak regarding this issue, it will be taken up on Thursday, November 21st. All members of the public are welcome to address the Commissioners directly at this time.
Sincerely,
Mark Robson
Regional Director

Hello Mr. Robson, As an avid angler of the Indian River, I would like to express my concern as to the possibility of allowing commercial fisherman to use the 500 square foot seine net, or any net for that matter, in Florida. I have personally been fishing the Indian River since I have been a kid (about 28 years now). The fishing has improved a lot since the ban of nets. The numbers, types and size of fish has also improved making it a more enjoyable and relaxing trim for the recreational angler. I am a mechanical engineer and have to work in excess of 50-60 hours a week. Nothing pleases me more that to spend my weekends fishing in the river. It provides myself and my wife with a very relaxing weekend. I am currently living in West Palm Beach and I spend an hour each way to tow my boat up to Stuart for this type of recreation. I fish this area at 2-3 times a month. I cannot fish for the types of fish, redfish and trout, in our area. This is one of the best places for all of the people from South Florida to come and enjoy some of the best inshore fishing in Florida. I would really hate to see it ruined by letting commercial fishermen over fish the area and reduce the numbers so the recreational angler would have to struggle to catch any fish in the area. Please consider rejecting this proposal from the commercial fisherman and allow the recreational angler to continue their fishing and relaxation. We currently have enough problems in the river with water clarity issues currently. Regards, Richard A. Andrew
